December 11, 2025 — Domes / Deadman’s / Marías Community Rescue
A coordinated surfer-led rescue demonstrating rapid assessment, board-assisted extraction, and community response across Domes, Deadman’s, and Marías.

On Thursday, December 11, 2025, at approximately 4:30 pm, a rescue occurred along the Domes–Deadman’s–Marías stretch of coastline.
A swimmer entered the water at Domes and was gradually pulled toward the rocks at Deadman’s. A rip current then repositioned him in front of the reef and pushed him further offshore.
Collin Gibbs — a local surfer with 15 years in Rincón and owner of Rincón Pool Cleaning — was paddling out to surf Deadman’s / Indy’s when he identified the distress. He assessed the swimmer, placed him on his board, and began paddling toward other surfers positioned at Indy’s.
Six individuals coordinated in the water, timing the sets and navigating the swimmer safely through breaking waves. The group successfully brought him to shore between the reef fingers above Marías.
👉 The swimmer exited without reported injuries.
This same weekend, another rescue was documented at Sandy Beach. It is important to emphasize: these are only the rescues that become visible. Many more occur without documentation.
A recurring pattern is often heard:
“It was flat and beautiful yesterday, so I came back today and almost drowned.”
Ocean conditions change rapidly.
Rip currents do not provide warnings.
If you see someone preparing to enter unsafe water:
speak up.
warn them.
One minute of prevention can save a life.
Thank you to Collin Gibbs, Peter Rivera (@greenambassador), and everyone who assisted.
This is prevention.
This is community.
This is real-time ocean knowledge in action.
