February 6, 2026 — Sandy Beach Shorebreak Neck Injury Response
A coordinated multi-party response to a shorebreak injury at Sandy Beach highlighting rapid notification, stabilization, and professional medical transfer.

On February 6, 2026, at approximately 11:45 A.M., a shorebreak injury occurred at Sandy Beach, Rincón.
A beach employee from a local surf rental trailer notified nearby community responders that an individual had fallen in the shorebreak and was being monitored on the beach. Emergency services (911) had already been contacted and an ambulance was en route.
Upon arrival, the injured individual had been removed from the water and placed on a foam surfboard. Family members, bystanders, and two medical professionals present on the beach were providing stabilization.
A responding Rincón Water Safety representative conducted an observational assessment, confirming the individual was conscious, responsive, and reporting neck and upper extremity discomfort. EMS arrival was confirmed prior to beach entry.
Life Care Medical Transport personnel arrived with a backboard and cervical collar. With coordinated assistance from individuals on site, the patient was stabilized onto a backboard and transported from the beach to the ambulance for transfer to a medical facility in Mayagüez.
Local police also responded and were provided with relevant incident information.
Subsequent communication from family indicated that diagnostic imaging revealed a cervical fracture and that the individual was later transferred to San Juan for surgical evaluation.
This incident reflects the importance of:
• Rapid emergency notification
• Immediate water removal
• Cervical stabilization awareness
• Coordinated bystander assistance
• Efficient EMS response
The presence of trained individuals, medical professionals, and rapid transport likely contributed positively to the continuity of care.
